Congrats, you've made it to the last page! Here are some FAQs that we couldn't fit elsewhere.
Youth aren't fully independent yet, so parents may indeed be a factor. How big a factor depends on the individual issue.
Example: "I'm not interested in my course of study at all, and I want to drop out. My parents are pressuring me to complete it so I can at least get the diploma/degree." We'll leave it to you to navigate this based on your coaching style. Standard coaching techniques can help the youth gain some clarity on their next steps.
Gentle reminder—if you're a parent yourself who's had the same conversation with your teen, remain objective and don't criticise the parents or take their side. Every parent has the right to raise their child the way they want to—just because you as a parent are ok with your child doing something doesn't mean that another parents will be ok with it. Please be sensitive to this.
Unless otherwise required by a specific programme, in general:
Reflect on the possible root causes of his lack of interest. Is it because the two of you aren’t clicking, which may suggest that the solution is for a different coach to take over, or an external factor that’s distracting the youth?
Perhaps raise this as an observation and/or question with the youth (i.e. ask, never assume) and hear it directly from him/her in terms of what’s not working and what would work better for him/her.
Ultimately, we’ll leave it to your good judgement and professionalism. If there's a mutual decision not to continue, so be it.
We do a pre-post survey that measures the youth's beliefs and perceptions. We're happy to do a sharing back with coaches on the insights gleaned at the end of each programme run.
This brings us to the end of our mini induction. Just 3 final steps:
Complete the Google form below. The purpose is to help you get ready for coaching youth. There are just 3 reflection questions, and it will take you about 10-20 min. We'll be alerted once you submit.
Send us a short bio of yourself, in third person narrative over WhatsApp. We'll use to introduce you to your coachee in the WhatsApp chat. Up to you what you want to say/include. Just 3-5 lines. Besides what you do for a living, it may be nice if you include something you believe in (perhaps about coaching), or something fun, like your hobbies. Try to be relatable and casual, and not offer a purely corporate bio.
Accept our coaching agreement. We'll send this to you over WhatsApp later.
